CATFISH DERBY SETS 2008 DATE

Saturday, June 7, 2008 will be the date for the 30th Annual NPCC- Calhoun Catfish Derby for Kids with the same weigh-in registration and entertainment site as in previous years, Calhoun Sportswear, 250 Bunting Road in St. Catharines from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.. The organizing committee has held its first planning meeting and has chosen Randy Morrison as its 2008 chairman, and Derby Marshall.

The Catfish Derby is proud to be associated with such an important regional charity, with all proceeds raised going to the Niagara Peninsula Children's Centre which provides therapy for over 2900 children with physical or communicative disabilities from all 12 municipalities in Regional Niagara.

For the past 29 years, the Calhoun Catfish Derby has been the largest and most successful fishing event for kids with a turnout one year of 2,000 entries.

Calhoun Vice President, Michelle Myers says, "our goal has always been to increase children's self esteem by creating a positive family experience of fishing in one of many lakes, streams or ponds in the Niagara Peninsula. In the derby's history, around 15,000 area kids have participated, as well as many fine businesses. We are proud to say that in The Catfish Derby, every child is a winner!".

Ms. Myers says, Òthese facts make it very evident that the Calhoun Catfish Derby and the Niagara Peninsula Children's Centre share many common goals and aspirations. We are both operating with a theme of Kids Helping Kids, and with these similarities, we see much success as we mesh a fun fishing day featuring kids from many different backgrounds who will be fishing for NPCC. Our goal is to increase awareness and therefore support for the NPCC and enjoy a day for kids and families for many years in the futureÓ.

Prizes will be awarded for various fish and size categories and a free Catfish Derby T Shirt will be given to the first 1,000 children who attend. A nominal donation of $2.00 towards the Niagara Peninsula Children Centre will qualify any child to enter.

Niagara area businesses or service clubs interested in becoming a sponsoring partner are asked to call the NPCC Foundation at (905) 688-3550, extension 106., or Calhoun Sportswear at (905) 688-6100, extension 222.
